2:1 Now on the third day · there was a wedding at Cana in Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there.
2:2 Jesus and his disciples were also invited · · · to the wedding.
2:3 · When the wine ran out, Jesus’ mother said · · to him, “They have no more wine.”
2:4 And Jesus said to her, · “Woman, what is that to me and to you? My hour has not yet come.” ·
2:5 His mother said · to the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.”
2:6 Now standing nearby were six stone water jars, according to the purification requirements of the Jews, each holding from twenty to thirty gallons.
2:7 Jesus said to the servants, · “Fill the jars with water.” So they filled them up to the brim.
2:8 Then he told them, “Now draw some out and take it to the master of the feast.” So they took him some,
2:9 and when the master of the feast tasted the water that had become wine, · not knowing where it came from (though the servants who had drawn the water knew), he called the bridegroom ·
2:10 and said to him, “Everyone serves the choice wine first, and then when the guests are a bit tipsy, that which is inferior. But you have kept the good wine until now.”
2:11 Jesus did this, the first of his signs, · at Cana in Galilee, and revealed · his glory; and his disciples believed in him. ·
2:12 After this he went down to Capernaum with · his mother and his brothers and · his disciples, but they stayed there only a few days.
2:13 Now the Jewish Passover was at hand, · so Jesus went up to Jerusalem. ·
2:14 · In the temple he found people selling cattle and sheep and doves, and the money changers seated at their tables.
2:15 So he made a whip out of cords and drove them all out of the temple, including the sheep and the cattle. · He scattered the coins of the money changers and overturned their tables.
2:16 · To those who were selling · doves he said, “Take those out of here! Do not make · my Father’s house · a marketplace!”
2:17 His disciples remembered · that it stands written, · “Zeal for your house will consume me.”
2:18 The Jews therefore replied, · saying to him, “What sign can you show us to prove your authority to do all this?”
2:19 Jesus answered · them, saying, “Destroy · this temple and in three days I will restore it.”
2:20 Then the Jews said, “This temple has been under construction for forty-six · years, · and you can restore it in three days?”
2:21 But he was speaking about the temple of his body.
2:22 Therefore, when he had risen from the dead, his disciples remembered · that he had said this, and they believed the scripture and the words that Jesus had spoken. ·
2:23 Now while Jesus was in · Jerusalem during the festival of Passover, · many people put their trust in · his name, for they saw his · miraculous signs that he was performing.
2:24 But as for Jesus, he did not entrust himself to them, because · he knew all men,
2:25 and because he had no need that anyone should give evidence concerning · man, for he himself knew what was in · man.
