20:1  Now on the first day of the week Mary · Magdalene came early to the tomb, while it was still dark, and she saw the stone removed from the tomb.
20:2  So she went running · to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one whom Jesus loved, · and said to them, “They have taken our Master out of the tomb, and we do not know where they have put him!”
20:3  So · Peter and the other disciple set out · to go to the tomb.
20:4  The two were running · together, but the other disciple ran ahead more quickly than Peter and arrived first at the tomb.
20:5  · When he stooped down to look in, he saw the linen wrappings lying there but he did not go in.
20:6  Then Simon Peter, who had been behind him, also arrived, and he went right into the tomb. · He saw the linen wrappings lying there,
20:7  and the face cloth that had been on · Jesus’ head; it was not lying with the linen wrappings but rolled up in one place by itself.
20:8  Then the other disciple, the one who had arrived first, also went into the tomb, and he saw and believed.
20:9  (They still did not understand the Scripture that Jesus must rise from the dead.)
20:10  So the disciples returned to their homes.
20:11  But Mary stood weeping outside the tomb. As she was weeping she stooped down to look into the tomb.
20:12  · She saw two angels in white sitting there, one at the head and the other at the feet of the place where the body of Jesus had been lying.
20:13  · They said to her, “Woman, why are you weeping?” She said to them, “They have taken away · my Master, and I do not know where they have put him.”
20:14  Having said this, she turned around · and saw · Jesus standing there, but she did not know that it was Jesus.
20:15  Jesus said to her, “Woman, why are you weeping? Who is it that you are looking for?” Thinking that he was the gardener, she said to him, “Sir, if you are the one who carried him away, tell me where you have put him, and I will take him away.”
20:16  Jesus said to her, “Mary!” She turned and said to him in Hebrew, “Rabbouni!” (which means “Teacher”).
20:17  Jesus said to her, “Do not hold on to me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father. But go to · my brothers and say to them, ‘I am ascending to · my Father and your Father, · to my God and your God.’”
20:18  Mary Magdalene went · and reported to the disciples, “I have seen the Master!” and she told them that he had said these things to her.
20:19  On the evening · of that day, the first day of the week, · when the doors were locked where the disciples were for · fear of the Jews, Jesus came · and stood in their midst and said to them, “Peace be with you.”
20:20  · Having said this, he showed them his hands and his side. Then the disciples were filled with joy when they saw the Lord.
20:21  So Jesus said to them · again, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, I also am sending you.”
20:22  · Having said this, he breathed on them and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit.
20:23  Whoever’s sins you forgive, · they stand forgiven; whoever’s sins you pronounce unforgiven, they remain unforgiven.
20:24  But Thomas (called the Twin), one of the twelve, · was not with them when Jesus came.
20:25  So the other disciples kept saying to him, “We have seen the Master!” But he said to them, “Unless I see in · his hands the mark of the nails, and put · my finger into the wound left by the nails, and put my · hand into · his side, I will never believe!”
20:26  · Eight days later his disciples were in the house again, · and Thomas was with them. Although the doors were locked, Jesus came · and stood in their midst and said, “Peace be with you.”
20:27  Then he said to Thomas, “Put · your finger here, and examine · my hands; and reach out · your hand, and put it into · my side. · Do not continue in unbelief, but believe.”
20:28  Thomas replied · to him, saying, · “My Lord, and · my God!”
20:29  Jesus said to them, · “You believe because you have seen me. Blessed are those who have not seen me, yet believe.”
20:30  Now Jesus did many · other signs · in the presence of his disciples, which are not recorded in · this book;
20:31  but these are recorded so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in · his name.
