21:1  Looking up, · Jesus saw · rich people putting their gifts into the offering box, ·
21:2  and he saw a poor widow put in two small coins.
21:3  And he said, “I tell you the truth, that · this poor widow · has put in more than all the rest.
21:4  For they all, out of their excess, put in their gifts, but she, out of her need, put in everything that she had · to live on.”
21:5  And while some were speaking of the temple, how it was adorned with beautiful stones and gifts dedicated to God, Jesus said,
21:6  “These things that you see—days will come in which there will not be left stone upon stone that will not be thrown down.”
21:7  And they asked him, saying, “Teacher, when will these things be, and what is the sign when these things are about to happen?”
21:8  And he said, “See that you are not led astray! For many will come in · my name, saying, ‘I am he!’ and, ‘The time is at hand!’ Do not go after them.
21:9  When · you hear of wars and rebellions, do not be terrified, for these things must take place first, but the end will not follow immediately.”
21:10  Then he said to them, “Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom;
21:11  there will be great earthquakes, and in various places famines and plagues. There will be dreadful portents and great signs from heaven.
21:12  But before all these things, they will lay their hands on you · and persecute you, handing you over to the synagogues and prisons, bringing you before kings and governors for the sake of · my name.
21:13  This will result in an opportunity for you for witness.
21:14  So determine in · your hearts not to rehearse beforehand how to defend yourself,
21:15  For I am the one who will give you a mouth and wisdom, which none of your adversaries will be able to resist or contradict. ·
21:16  You will be handed over · even by parents and brothers and relatives and friends, and some of you they will put to death.
21:17  · You will be hated by all because of · my name.
21:18  Yet not a hair of · your head will perish.
21:19  By · your endurance you will gain · your lives.
21:20  “But when you see Jerusalem surrounded by armies, then know that its desolation has drawn near. ·
21:21  Then those who are in · Judea must flee to the mountains, and those in the midst of the city must evacuate, and those in the country must not enter it,
21:22  for these are days of vengeance, so that everything that has been written may be fulfilled.
21:23  Woe to those who are pregnant and to those who are nursing infants in those · days! For there will be great distress on the earth and wrath against this people.
21:24  · They will fall by the edge of the sword and be led captive to · all nations, and Jerusalem will be trampled underfoot by the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled.
21:25  · “There will be signs in the sun and moon and stars; and on the earth distress among nations confused by the roaring and surging of the sea;
21:26  people fainting with fear and foreboding of what is coming on the world. For the powers of the heavens will be shaken.
21:27  And then they will see the Son of Man coming on a cloud with power and great glory.
21:28  Now when these things begin to happen, straighten yourselves up and raise · your heads, because your deliverance is drawing near.” ·
21:29  And he told them a parable: “Look at the fig tree, and all the trees.
21:30  When they have already put forth their leaves, you see for yourselves and know that summer is already near. ·
21:31  So also you, when you see these things happening, will know that the kingdom of God is near.
21:32  I tell you the truth, that this generation will by no means have passed away · before all things have happened.
21:33  · Heaven and · earth will pass away, · but my words will not pass away.
21:34  “But watch yourselves lest your minds be dulled · by dissipation and drunkenness and the anxieties of this life, and that day close down upon you suddenly, ·
21:35  like a trap. For it will come upon all those who live on the face of the whole earth.
21:36  Be alert · at all times, praying that you may have strength to escape all these things that will take place, and to stand before the Son of Man.”
21:37  During the day he was · in the temple teaching, but at night he went out and stayed on the hill · called “The Mount of Olives.”
21:38  And all the people came to him in the temple at dawn to listen to him.
