11:1  And when they drew near to Jerusalem, Bethphage, and Bethany, at the Mount of Olives, Jesus dispatched two of his disciples
11:2  and said to them, “Go into the village · directly ahead of you, and immediately upon entering it you will find a tethered colt on which no one has ever sat. Untie it and bring it.
11:3  · If anyone says to you, ‘Why are you doing this?’ say, ‘The Lord has need of it and will send it back here as soon as possible.’”
11:4  So they went away and found a tethered colt at a door outside in the street, and they untied it.
11:5  And some of those standing there said to them, “What are you doing, untying the colt?”
11:6  And they spoke to them just as Jesus had said, · and they gave them permission.
11:7  Then they brought the colt to · Jesus and threw their cloaks on it, · and he sat on it.
11:8  And many spread · their cloaks on the road, while others spread tall grass, cutting it from the fields.
11:9  And those who went before and those who followed were crying out, “Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!
11:10  Blessed is the coming kingdom of our father David! Hosanna in the highest!”
11:11  And he entered Jerusalem and went into the temple. And looking around at everything, the hour already being late, he went out to Bethany with the twelve.
11:12  And on the next day, when they had left from Bethany, Jesus became hungry.
11:13  And seeing at a distance a fig tree in leaf, he went to see if he could find anything on it. And when he came to it, he found nothing but leaves, · for it was not the season for figs.
11:14  So in response he said to it, “May no one ever eat fruit from you again!” And his disciples were listening. ·
11:15  Then they went into Jerusalem. And entering the temple, he began to drive out those who were selling and those who were buying in the temple; and he overturned the tables of the money changers and the chairs of those who were selling · pigeons,
11:16  and he would not allow anyone to carry merchandise through the temple.
11:17  And he was teaching and saying to them, “Is it not written, · ‘My house shall be called a house of prayer for all the nations’? But you have made it ‘a hideout for robbers.’”
11:18  And the ruling priests and the scribes heard of this and began seeking how they could destroy him, for they feared him, because all the people were impressed by · his teaching.
11:19  And when evening came, they went out of the city.
11:20  And passing by in the morning, they saw the fig tree withered down to the roots.
11:21  And thinking back, · Peter said to him, “Rabbi, look! The fig tree that you cursed has withered!”
11:22  And answering, · Jesus said to them, “Have faith in God.
11:23  I tell you the truth, that if anyone says to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and cast into the sea,’ and does not waver in · his heart but believes that what he says will happen, it will be done for him.
11:24  For this reason I tell you, whatever you pray and ask for, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.
11:25  And whenever you stand praying, forgive if you have something against someone, so that · your Father · in · heaven may also forgive you · your transgressions.”
11:27  And they came again to Jerusalem. And while he was walking about in the temple, the ruling priests and the scribes and the elders came to him,
11:28  and were asking him, “By what authority are you doing these things?” and, “Who gave you · this authority to do these things?”
11:29  · But Jesus said to them, “I will ask you one thing; · answer me, and I will tell you by what authority I do these things.
11:30  The baptism of John—was it from heaven or from man? Answer me!”
11:31  So they discussed it among themselves, saying, “If we say, ‘From heaven,’ he will say, ‘Why then did you not believe him?’
11:32  But if we say, ‘From man’—(they were afraid of the people, for everyone considered that · John was truly a prophet).
11:33  So in answer to Jesus, they said, “We do not know.” And · Jesus said to them, “Neither will I tell you by what authority I am doing these things.”
